100th Anniversary of the birth of Kaizo Gogen Yamaguchi
Welcome to the official web site of the International Karate-Do Goju-Kai Association for Australia and Oceania.
With multiple IKGA branches in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia Yamaguchi Goju-Kai Karate is one of the largest and foremost karate organisations in Australia. Many of the leading instructors started their training in the 60's and have trained with Japan's top masters in Japan and here in Australia.
Goju-Kai is a traditional style of karate (see Budo Charter in Main Menu under Academy's Coaches) page. With training drills and techniques passed on by generations of past karate masters such as Gogen Yamaguchi (1909 - 1989) and multiple World champions such as Wayne Otto (England) and Junior Leferve (Belgium) who have taught exclusively at the Academy our students are guaranteed of the best martial arts training available.
Brian Mackie is an instructor who believes that sports karate can compliment the traditional values of the karate-do through modern sports physiology and psychology. Australia's first official international champion (APUKO 1981) Brian won the right to represent and captain Australia in several major international events. The benefit of his experience is passed on to his students who have enjoyed considerable success in both kata and kunite events.
In October 2009 twenty of his students look forward celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Goju-Kai founder with IKGA members from over 50 countries when we come together to contest the 5th IKGA World Championships in South Africa.
