Director of I.K.G.A. for Australia and Oceania, Brian has been teaching at the Karate-Do Goju-Kai Academy of Japan in Perth since 1966.

Instructing 15 classes a week Brian’s passion for karate is matched only by his love of teaching. Brian is priviliged to have been instructed by World renowned Japanese masters and be one of the few Western Karate-ka to have been personally graded to Kyoshi ranking.

AKF founding member
Brian was a founder member and President of the Australian Karate Federation WA. He was responsible for writing the original Level 1 and 2 N.C.A.S. training manuals and was appointed permanent Technical Advisor for the A.K.F.

Brian has hosted both the Asian Pacific and World IKGA Championships in Perth bringing the world’s leading karate exponents and coaches to Perth.  (More)

Gold medalist in the 2006 IKGA World Championships Veterans Kata in Holland and Silver Medallist in the 2007 IKGA Asian-Pacific in Hong Kong

The mother of Chantel and Benjamin, Gail represented Western Australia in Kumite in the 1984 AKF Nationals Championships.

Since then she has assisted Brian in teaching the many junior members of the Academy to achieve their personal best.

Gail has just taken the Bronze Medal in the 2009 IKGA World Championships Veterans Kata in South Africa in what is most likely to be her last competition.

Multiple State and National Champion Silver medallist in the Junior Asian-Pacific Championships in Jakarta.

Chantel has been studying karate since the age of seven and has excelled in both Kata and Kumite. She has trained in Japan with Japanese National Junior Coach Murakami sensei at the Meguro High School.

Now a mother of four boys Chantel is currently living in Malaysia and looking forward to returning to Australia and getting back into training and competition.

Gold Medalist 4th Asian Pacific Championships 2007, Bronze Team Kumite 2005 IKGA World Championships and Silver medallist 1993 IKGA World Championships.

Although Ben participated and excelled in many different sports from an early age he kept up the practice of karate.

At the age of fifteen Ben was selected to represent Australia in the first Junior World Cup held in Perth by the AKF

Ben has been practising karate since he was 5 years of age. In 2007, after competing in Hong Kong, Ben took the opportunity to travel to Japan and train with Saiko Shihan Goshi Yamaguchi.
